Stinskie's Pics!

Our old friend Stinskie Grabowski made the long trip from Halifax to Ottawa for the last two weeks of August.  The main reason for the trip is that Stinskie, Jim Udall and myself decided to make the trip to Scranton PA for the DCA World Championships held on the Labour Day weekend (a good time was had by all!).  While here in Ottawa he presented some of the guys who marched with him at LaSalle with a great DVD of some of our performances (a multi-media mix of home movies and still images over some audio tracks) that he had mastered and produced.  He also presented me with a CD of images that his family had collected over the years.  Many were taken by and collected his parents, the majority of which would have been taken by corps photographer Eric McConachie.  Anyone who remembers Oscar Gravell knows that he was a very big man... but Oscar also had a heart as big as his body.  He loved the corps and thought nothing of paying for a seat on the bus to travel with us and watch his son perform.  After a show he would alway round up the snare section and take us for a bite to eat..... and it was always Oscar's treat!

Here is the first couple of approximately 50 images that I plan to add to the site!

Warmups!

You know.... over the years many people have asked me why the 1973 Cadets LaSalle drum line was so good.

Bill they ask... "was it because of the many long winter hours doing Stone Stick Control?" or "was it the wrist strengthening exercises you implemented with the help of a Weider Twister (a coil spring from a Mack truck suspended between two iron bars - the program was abruptly terminated after I accidentally whacked myself in the balls)?"

Well, after much thought and consideration I've decided that what really made this group so great was the high level of intensity with which we approached every contest . A picture is worth a thousand words they say and as you can see by the image below we were really "up" for this particular show!  Check out the look on the Jimmer's face as he contemplates the errr... challenge that lies ahead!
